Emergency Room or Urgent Care?

Getting sick isn’t fun, but getting seriously sick is even worse. If you're getting sick enough to require professional care, do you go to the emergency room or the local urgent care? It can be a confusing choice, so BSA CareXpress Urgent Care is here to help explain when you should visit us, and when you should head for the emergency room.

Go to the ER when you have:

  • Sudden difficulty speaking or understanding speech

  • Head or eye injuries

  • Serious burns

  • Severe flu or cold symptoms

  • Difficulty breathing

  • Severe heart palpitations

  • Persistent chest pains, especially if accompanied by jaw or arm pain, sweating, and/or vomiting

  • Broken bones or joints

Think of urgent care as your doctor’s office, except with extended hours. We treat non-life threatening injuries. Many people go to the ER to receive treatment for minor illnesses and injuries - issues that require treatment but don’t require admittance into an ER or hospital. Many people go to the ER because the doctor they would normally go to is closed. These kinds of situations are perfect for urgent care. In addition, going to urgent care for these minor treatments takes the strain off the ER and lets them focus on more serious emergencies quicker.

Times to visit urgent care include:

  • Fever without rash

  • Painful urination

  • Sore throat

  • Minor trauma like a sprain or shallow cut

  • Broken bones

These kinds of illnesses or injuries can be handled quickly and inexpensively by BSA CareXpress Urgent Care. You can also visit us to get for immunizations, STD testing, and other tests as well. When you need fast, affordable treatment for those more minor medical situations, visit your local BSA CareXpress Urgent Care!
